I think that him texting you out of the blue is a good sign. If he saw you and took the initiative to text you first then he might’ve been thinking about you beforehand and seeing you gave him an excuse to say something. His flirting and smileys are also a good sign, being polite and minimal with your texts is also good and I believe that maybe he could be trying to slowly ease back into your life.
Thank you for replying. So it’s not completely hopeless? I’m afraid that I’ll do something else that will hurt him unintentionally or he’ll just be fed up with me. He’s never been this way and he always told me that we would only lose contact if I stopped talking to him.
This is something I would do but I would stop if he kept reaching out. People I’ve talked to have said the same and it’s truly heartbreaking to hear them say “just let it go, he hates you” or ” maybe he’ll come back but probably not”.
