Quoted from Kevin’s email:
here is what you need to write in the letter
– Agree with the breakup
– Let them know that you think that you both need space
– If you had been doing something new (something positive), let them know about it. This is to pique their curiosity and plant a happy image of you in their mind. Don’t lie about it, find something that you feel fortunate about. But don’t mention it in the letter. That is if they call back ( and there is a good chance they will) you must have something to say about that positive thing.
– Apologize briefly, if you acted desperate, crazy or insecure during the breakup. KEEP IT BRIEF. NO MORE THAN 2-3 SENTENCES
For example,
==========================================================
John,
Just wanted to drop off a short note to let you know that I am totally okay with your decision to split up.
Saw it coming for awhile.
I wanted to also let you know how sorry I am for acting like I did after the breakup. It was totally disrespectful to you. I apologize that I hurt you.
Oh! Some good news! I had a fantastic change in fortune and luck the other day. Funny timing…huh?
Love to fill you in…but in the future. You and I both need some space right now.
-Jane
